In Marin County, homelessness among teens and young adults often goes unseen. Many young people aging out of systems like foster care find themselves without stable housing, reliable family support, or access to basic tools needed to move forward. That gap is exactly where the Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity Project (AHO), a Marin County nonprofit supporting at-risk youth, steps in. AHO is a 22-year-old, multi-award-winning nonprofit that has been providing meaningful support to 6,118 teens and young adults in Marin County who are without families or resources, helping them avoid chronic homelessness or a life dependent on the system.
Marin County faces persistent homelessness challenges. According to the 2024 Point-in-Time count, approximately 1,090 residents were experiencing homelessness in the county, a slight decrease from 1,121 in 2022, and about three-quarters were unsheltered. These counts are the tip of the iceberg and do not provide an accurate picture of the issue, especially among youth, who choose to stay under the radar.
While local homelessness figures do not isolate youth and young adults precisely, broader data shows youth homelessness remains a serious concern in California. (Source: Wikipedia, “Homelessness in California”)
How a Marin County Nonprofit Supporting At-Risk Youth Creates Long-Term Stability
Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity Project, often referred to simply as AHO, provides a hand-up to unhoused and at-risk teens and young adults by pairing adult and peer allies who consistently offer their lived experience, which youth can trust, along with practical resources that help young people regain stability. AHO offers life coaching, access to housing and employment resources, a P.O. Box, a school/work wardrobe, scholarships, leadership opportunities, and ongoing guidance designed to help young adults build independence and confidence. Rather than offering one-time solutions, AHO focuses on long-term relationships that meet young people where they are and support them as they move forward. As a result, many AHO alumni return in their 30s and 40s to mentor new youth to the program and participate with AHO’s Youth Leadership Team on the community-driven projects.

Zara Babitzke leads a Marin County nonprofit supporting at-risk youth with a long-term mentorship model that helps unhoused young adults gain independence and confidence.
Founded by Zara Babitzke in 2003, Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity was founded on the belief that young people deserve dignity, consistency, and someone who does not give up on them. Youth must call for help themselves, which confirms they want help and that it’s not someone else who thinks they need or should get help. Zara’s personal commitment to Marin’s homeless teens and young adults deeply resonated with us at Professional Computer Concepts, as the AHO model stems from Zara’s personal experience with family addiction and homelessness, and her willingness to give everything she has to transform lives and build youth leaders.
Did You Know? Youth experiencing homelessness are significantly more likely to struggle with long-term instability, unemployment, and system involvement without consistent mentorship and support. That is why a Marin County nonprofit supporting at-risk youth plays such a critical role in breaking the cycle before it becomes permanent.

Why Behind-the-Scenes Support Matters
Nonprofits like Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity want to spend their limited resources where they matter most, directly supporting young people. Day-to-day technology, such as email, laptops, and basic systems, may not be visible from the outside, but when they fail, the critical work of their mission is seriously hindered.
This is where Professional Computer Concepts comes in.
We provide ongoing help desk and general IT support to AHO at a reduced cost, responding to needs as they arise throughout the year. Keeping email running, devices functioning, and everyday technology working allows Zara and her team to stay focused on supporting young people rather than hours spent troubleshooting technical issues. It is mostly day-to-day work, but that reliability makes a real difference.
Turning Retired Technology into Opportunity
Recently, we had the opportunity to take our partnership with Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity to the next level. During a client device refresh, we approached the client to ask whether their retired laptops could be repurposed for the young people supported by AHO.
These devices no longer met business needs, but they were more than capable of supporting schoolwork, job searches, and everyday use. Each laptop was securely wiped to protect client data, fully tested, and prepared for reuse before being provided to unhoused and at-risk teens and young adults in Marin County through Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity.
For the young people who receive them, access to a laptop means the ability to complete school assignments, apply for jobs and housing, and take tangible steps toward stability. The excitement and genuine gratitude we have seen from both AHO’s team, and the young adults themselves are all the thanks we need.
Community Partnerships in Marin County Make a Difference

The Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity project team works alongside community partners in Marin County to support at-risk youth through mentorship, resources, and consistent guidance.
Supporting Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity aligns with how we approach our work at Professional Computer Concepts (PCC). We believe technology should remove barriers, not create them.
Our role is intentionally behind the scenes. By providing reduced-cost IT support and repurposing retired laptops, we help ensure Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity can focus their energy and funding where it matters most, supporting unhoused and at-risk teens and young adults in our community to become contributing adults with a life filled with hope, purpose, and meaning.
This is not about a one-time gesture. It is about showing up consistently, using what we know how to do, and contributing in ways that create a widespread long-term impact.
Did You Know? According to Marin County’s 2024 Point-in-Time Count, approximately 1,090 residents were experiencing homelessness, with nearly three-quarters unsheltered. Local intervention matters, and a Marin County nonprofit supporting at-risk youth helps address the problem at its earliest and most preventable stage.
A Community Responsibility in Marin County
Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity is a reminder that meaningful support does not always come in the form of money. Awareness, time, skills, and resources all matter. When local nonprofits are supported, the entire Marin County community benefits.
If there is one takeaway, it is this: support local nonprofits in whatever way you can. It does not have to be financial. Small, practical contributions such as time, skills, or unused technology can help create real opportunities for young people who need and deserve them.
