What is End of Life (EOL)?

End-of-Life or EOL is the product life cycle stage where the vendor announces that they will not provide support for the software after a specific date. This means that the vendor will no longer release updates and security patches.

Why should I care about EOL?

End of Life means that the software you are running will eventually no longer be updated and patched, creating security gaps. You will have to determine if you are willing to live with those vulnerabilities or if you need to find an alternative to an end-of-life product.

What is the End of Life date for Windows 10?

Microsoft has announced that the End of Life date for Windows 10 is October 14, 2025. This means that support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025.

What does EOL for Windows 10 mean to me?

After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for Windows 10. Your PC will still work, but a lack of security updates may soon cause your operating system to pose a security risk.

What is an alternative to Windows 10?

If you are happy on the Microsoft platform the next best option would be Windows 11. Windows 11 gets you nearly the same selection of computer hardware, software, and video games as Windows 10. Windows 11 has a few new features not found in Windows 10, such as Snap Layouts or organizing programs windows on the desktop, new HDR display support, and better security.

Can I still use Windows 10 after 2025?

If you decide not to upgrade to Windows 11 before October 14, 2025, your Windows 10 PC will continue to work, but it will become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses.

Can I upgrade to Windows 11 for free?

As of the time of this writing Microsoft was offering free upgrades to Windows 11, but only for Windows 10 PCs that are running the most current version of Windows 10 and meet the minimum hardware requirements. Find Windows 11 specs, features, and computer requirements
